Who owns patents? Employee vs Employer: A comparison of the US and Japan systems
Presented by Akiko Araki.

When employees invent for their employer, who owns these inventions and a patents? -- Inventor employees or their employers? What is the practical importance when an entrepreneur expects their employee to invent something? Comparing the US system and Japanese system suggests some lesson.

Ms. Araki is an IP lawyer in Japan and the US. She is the Founding Partner of Araki Law Office. She researches and compares the invention systems in Us, Japan, and Indonesia. Ms. Araki is a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley with Prof. Merges and has a BS and JD degree from Tohoku (東北大学) University. She has published and advised on functional food labeling systems and advertising regulations of health foods, as well as having represented a Japanese rock band.
